The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Egyptian government signed four protocols, overseen by Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment. This is reported by Sada el-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.
This initiative falls under the Ministry of Local Development’s efforts to enhance local performance and broaden investment opportunities within governorates. The project is receiving technical support from the Ministry and is implemented in partnership with the UNDP.
One of the core projects will establish an integrated centre for date and palm product management in Aswan, creating a hub for production, packaging, and trading, as well as a dedicated logistics zone for other agricultural crops.
The projects align with a national plan to maximise the use of local resources and strengthen value chains, with a focus on developing rural areas, creating employment opportunities for youth and women, and transforming governorates into specialised production centres. The Governor of Luxor noted that the new urban market in Habil will boost commerce and serve as a vital economic centre in Upper Egypt.
