Telecom Namibia has announced plans to extend fibre connectivity to more than 3,000 households under its 2025 expansion programme, with active projects in Windhoek and upcoming deployments in Ongwediva and Narraville.
According to Corporate Communications Head, Nomvula Kambinda, three Windhoek projects – Augustenium College, Ambrose and Luxury Hills – are nearing completion, covering over 2,600 erven where customer connections have already begun. She confirmed that rollout in Ongwediva and Narraville will commence in August and finish before year-end.
The company is also awaiting regulatory clearance for additional work in Ondangwa and Swakopmund, with timelines to be announced once approvals are in place. Phase 1 of the initiative, finalised in 2024, connected more than 5,000 erven across several Windhoek suburbs.
Kambinda noted that the shift to fibre is part of Telecom Namibia’s 2023-2027 strategic plan and aligns with the government’s broadband policy. The upgrade is expected to reduce service disruptions linked to copper cable theft while supporting trials of a new national broadband standard, with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps.
