Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, visited Equinix’s JN1 Data Centre in Johannesburg to advance discussions on investment in South Africa’s digital infrastructure.
After the visit, Minister Malatsi emphasized the critical role of data centres as the backbone of the digital economy, supporting cloud services, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence. “Data centres are the lifeblood of the digital economy. We are committed to positioning South Africa as Africa’s data centre hub,” he said.
Malatsi highlighted ongoing engagements with investors and other stakeholders to address sector challenges and explore opportunities for expanding data centre capacity across the country. He added that strengthening the digital infrastructure is key to driving economic growth and creating jobs.
