SEACOM has announced the launch of SEACOM 2.0, a bold new subsea cable project unveiled at the Submarine Networks World 2025 conference in Singapore. The system will extend connectivity across the Indian Ocean Basin, Middle East, Mediterranean, and Southern Europe, strengthening Africa’s role in the global digital economy.
Building on its pioneering achievement of deploying Africa’s first privately owned subsea cable in 2009, SEACOM is positioning this new system as a cornerstone of future connectivity. The project is designed to be AI-ready, resilient, and future-proof, with the capacity to power next-generation cloud, data, and digital ecosystems across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
With open-access architecture at its core, SEACOM 2.0 aims to enhance digital resilience and competitiveness for the region’s economies. By boosting international bandwidth and supporting emerging technologies, the initiative is expected to accelerate digital transformation, drive innovation, and foster sustainable growth well into 2050.
The announcement marks a new era for SEACOM as it continues its mission to integrate Africa into the global digital landscape and deliver infrastructure that supports long-term connectivity and economic development.
