Nigeria is set to inaugurate a new 6,000-metric-ton lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State, according to Governor Abdullahi Sule. This is reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS. The project, financed by Chinese investors, represents the second such facility in the region and is double the size of the 3,000-metric-ton plant opened in 2023.
Governor Sule, speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, said the plant underscores the state’s ambition to establish itself as a hub for lithium processing. He noted that the investors had been encouraged by the quality and scale of Nasarawa’s lithium deposits, prompting them to deliver on their promise of a larger facility.
The governor added that the development forms part of a wider trend of foreign-backed mineral projects following favourable surveys of the state’s resources. He emphasised that the Nasarawa project is seen as an important step in capturing greater value from the country’s mineral wealth.
