The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has called on stakeholders and the general public to submit comments and recommendations on the review of the Communications Act, CAP 68:01.
According to MACRA, the review process aims to ensure that Malawi’s legal and regulatory framework for the communications sector remains responsive to rapid technological changes, evolving market developments, and the needs of stakeholders.
To lead the process, MACRA has established a Digital Laws Taskforce, which will gather and assess feedback from a wide range of contributors, including individuals, industry players, consumer groups, government agencies, academia, and civil society organisations.
“The purpose of this call is to gather diverse perspectives, proposals, and recommendations that will inform the review and drafting of the Communications Act,” the regulator said in a statement. Stakeholders have been given 21 days from the date of the notice to submit their inputs, with the deadline set for September 5, 2025.
Submissions should clearly indicate the name or organisation of the contributor, contact details, interest in the communications sector, and specific recommendations supported by justifications where possible. MACRA emphasised its commitment to stakeholder engagement, encouraging all interested parties to take part in shaping the future of Malawi’s communications regulatory framework.
