Harare: AfricUpdate – News Desk
As Zimbabwe looks towards achieving its Vision 2030, President Mnangagwa’s clarion call for economic heroes to drive growth and development has resonated with many. The mantra “Nyika inovakwa nevene vako” (the country is built by its own people) has sparked a sense of urgency and responsibility among citizens to contribute to the nation’s economic transformation. In the spirit of this call to action, a group of visionary women has stepped forward to bridge the gap in women empowerment projects. For too long, women have been equipped with skills, but the challenge of market access has hindered their progress.
Now, a breakthrough has been achieved through the establishment of Nomabea Foundation, an organization that connects suppliers with international buyers for horticultural products. This innovative approach is set to revolutionise women empowerment through agriculture, leaving no one behind. By grouping women into village-based units (VBUs) or clusters of 10 the foundation will enable them to work together, access markets, and achieve financial freedom. This initiative aligns perfectly with the government’s initiative to promote VBUs, recognising the potential of small-scale farmers to drive economic growth.
The partnership with Kutsaga, Financial Institutions, Technical Service Providers and most importantly the Farmers themselves will ensure that sustainable practices are adhered to, meeting international demands and certification standards. Training from reputable international universities, such as Middlesex University, Lincoln University, and Royal Holloway University of London, enables EnrichGeo, a geo-mapping company, to further enhance the capacity of farmers, creating room for improvement and investment in Zimbabwe. The project will also contribute into GDP growth, increase exports and foreign currency inflows.
The Nomabea Foundation’s initiative is a game-changer for women empowerment in agriculture. By providing a platform for women to access international markets, it will unlock new opportunities for economic growth and development. This is precisely the kind of innovation and entrepreneurship that Zimbabwe needs to achieve its Vision 2030. As the nation celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation, we salute the women behind Nomabea Foundation for their vision and determination. They are the economic heroes of today, working tirelessly to build a brighter future for themselves, their communities, and the nation.
The President’s call for economic heroes has been answered, and the future looks bright. With women-led initiatives like Nomabea Foundation, profound guidance and direction from H.E Ambassador Colonel (Rtd) C. Katsande. Zimbabwe is poised to achieve its economic goals and become a beacon of prosperity in the region. The economic heroes are coming through, and together, we can build a prosperous future for all.
