President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva highlighted Ethiopia’s significant progress in achieving food sovereignty and developing its agricultural sector. He made the statement during the World Food Forum, according to Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS. Lula da Silva described Ethiopia as a model for countries working towards food sovereignty.
According to him, the republic is taking effective measures to build a sustainable domestic supply system through agricultural development and the implementation of national initiatives. In turn, Ethiopian diplomat Demitu Hambisa Bonsa noted that the YeLemat Trufat programme, implemented under the leadership of the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, has produced tangible results. In particular, the production of eggs, milk, honey, and fish has increased significantly, strengthening the nation’s food security.
Earlier, speaking at the Second UN Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa, Abiy Ahmed presented a comprehensive roadmap for Ethiopia’s reforms, covering land-use policy, agriculture and agrifinance. According to him, more than 700 specific initiatives are being implemented across the country to ensure that all citizens have access to safe and diverse food.
