A Chinese archaeological team is set to embark on a historic collaboration in Egypt, participating in a major excavation project at the site of the ancient city of Memphis, the country’s first capital. This marks the first time a Chinese team has been so deeply involved in archaeological work at one of Egypt’s most significant historical sites, as reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.
The project, undertaken in partnership with Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, the main body of the Ministry of Antiquities, will focus on the Sekhmet Temple in Memphis. The upcoming excavation aims to unearth valuable clues about the first unified era of ancient Egypt, shedding light on the origins of writing and social structures.
Experts emphasise the project’s broader significance in understanding the development of early states, the rise of civilisation, and the advancement of science and technology. This collaboration also reflects the strengthening cultural ties between China and Egypt. The team will begin work in Egypt within months, with the first phase of the dig lasting for around two months.
