President William Ruto has appointed Charles Kamau Karondo as the new Chairperson of the Board of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), replacing Mary Wambui Mungai, whose appointment has been revoked.
The changes were formalised through Gazette Notice No. 11969, published on August 8, 2025. The notice, issued under section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, states that Karondo will serve for a period of three years, with effect from the date of publication.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, I appoint Charles Kamau Karondo to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Communications Authority of Kenya, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 8th August, 2025. The appointment of Mary Wambui Mungai is revoked,” the Gazette reads.
This marks a significant leadership change at the CA, the body mandated to regulate Kenya’s ICT sector, including telecommunications, broadcasting, e-commerce, and postal services.
