The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has announced a new partnership with Cisco Systems to support the government’s ambitious One Million Coders Programme, aimed at equipping Ghanaians with globally recognized digital skills and certifications.
During a recent meeting between the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), and representatives from Cisco led by Imoh Akpan, Business Development Manager for Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a digitally skilled workforce that will anchor Ghana’s transition into an innovation-driven economy.
Under the collaboration, Cisco will provide certification pathways and learning resources to Ghanaian learners enrolled in the One Million Coders Programme. The initiative seeks to train and certify professionals across key digital domains including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Data Forensics, and Cloud Computing. It forms part of a larger effort by the Ghanaian government to partner with global technology leaders such as Google, Huawei, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a future-ready workforce.
The Ministry also outlined plans to establish digital hubs in all 276 constituencies, each equipped with around 50 computers to provide youth, particularly in rural areas, with access to devices, internet connectivity, and training opportunities. These hubs are expected to serve as key enablers of digital inclusion and local capacity building, ensuring equitable access to Ghana’s growing digital economy.
As part of the next steps, the Ministry has encouraged Cisco to submit a formal proposal and expression of interest to formalize the partnership agreement. The collaboration aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which aims to make all aspects of governance AI-enabled and to extend the benefits of digital innovation to every region of the country.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry, including the Deputy Minister, Hon. Adams Mohammed Sukparu, who joined discussions on implementation strategies and partnership frameworks. The partnership with Cisco marks a major stride in Ghana’s efforts to position itself as a leader in digital skills development, technology innovation, and inclusive digital growth across Africa.
